Many things are happening on the next few weeks, I have my Starthmore audition, Sahffi & I will be performing at our friend David Ross' "In Late Bloom" album release party, then we head out for a goatFISH performance in Hoboken NJ, thanks to our talented & good friend Khaled (we love you man).

I'm also in the processes of finishing up the tune for the Faisal Goes West short-film, as well as meet with a Trio ensemble to be featured on Novella. Not to mention I want to focus this month on finding the background sounds I need for a few of the Novella tunes.

Did I mention I also need to win an online voting competition to battle for a chance to perform in London?. If you have a Facebook account, your half way there. Its free, you have to do it only once, AND you get a free tune out of it as well.

The Concept Album: Post #13

I'm proud to announce that this week marks the beginnings of Novella, I will star the process of doing some recording, with the help of my good friend Rob of ilyAIMY. I've also met with Koan (the narrator of the album) last week, and we had a great session, we were able to put together a plethora of information about the character's on Novella, so it looks like this project is growing big, FAST! & we are very excited about it :)

In the last post I had mentioned that "haboobah" has been replaced by an untitled song, well, that song is now titled :D..it shall be called "Theoria's Dream". I'm also excited to hear that my friend Fox has a couple of sketches for me to see for the Lyric book! VERY excited to see it :)

The next couple of weeks will be a little hectic for me, I have an audition for the Strathmore, & I'm waiting to hear back from an opportunities that has the possibility of taking me abroad to perform, I need to finish up recording the "Faisal Goes West" song for the Sudanese/American short-film, plus Sahffi & I will be performing in the NY/NJ area in a couple of weeks.
All good things, & I can't wait to add "Started the Novella recording" to all of that.

The Debute
Last week's performance at the Musicians of Mercy event was amazing, I got to see & meet some super talented people, it was an honor to share the stage with them all.
As promised I debuted "Lost The Sun", from my upcoming "Novella" album, it went GREAT! Joining me were Sahffi (on harmony vocals) & Robin (on viola). Also it looks like I will be having a Harp/Viola/Flute trio join the musical cast of Novella..so VERY exciting.

As you know, this is the year I start production on "Novella", so while listening to the tracks that I already have, I've decided to make a couple of changes.

Change #1 : Haboobah
It has come to my attention that the song "Haboobah (Sandstorm Love Affair), doesn't make sense in the over all story line. I do need a "dream" song for this part of the story, so I've decided to omit "Haboobah" from the album. I already started a draft for the song which will replace it, there is no title for it just yet.

Change #2 : The Return
The song "Lost the sun" is one of the epic moments in the story, I originally had the idea of having the narrator fill in the gap between that song & "Land of Ornith" which is the ending song..but the more I listen to it, the more it seems..empty.
So I'm now thinking of writing a song to fall into that gap, I'm kind of 50/50 on it at the moment, but I'm keeping that option open until I have a full draft of the album with the narration & see if something will need to be there or not.

Happy New Year,
Since this is my first post of 2012, I shall REALLY make it count :D.
Here is what's happened.
December 31st 2011 .. I got to open up for Carbon Leaf with my super band of friends! (Sahffi + Rob, Heather, & Kristen of ilyAIMY). We had a great time, got to meet the guys briefly, very nice gentlemen :)

I start this year by debuting "Lost The Sun" which is one of the songs in my upcoming album "Novella", & I do this with the accompaniment of Robin Fay Massie (on Violin) & Sahffi (on Harmony Vocals) at the Musicians of Mercy event. Here is a link to the event.

The week after that, Sahffi & I go to PA as goatFISH, for a TV interview & performance for Steel Stacks Live.

Then at the end of the month, I get to audition for The Residency Program at The Mansion at Strathmore, with the accompaniment of Sahffi (harmony vocals) & Kristen (on Cello).

Of course needless to say, that during all of this, I should be finishing up the recording process for the song, which goes to the "Faisal Goes West" short-film soundtrack.
I have my work cut out for me, but I can't WAIT to get started! :D

I just wanted to Thank every one for coming out to celebrate the goatFISH birthday twin party for Sahffi & I. It was a blast! so many of our good friends, family, & 2nd families were there. So many beautiful musical guest, who honored us with performances. From international stars to Sahffi's awesome students! Apparently I did a good job in convincing one of the student's son to get a Djembe! yay! :)

Last night I had an amazing last rehearsal with Sahffi & ilyAIMY , as we prepare to rock out at Hyatt Regency as we open up for Carbon Leaf in New Year's Eve.

Guenia Pig Song

No its a song about a guenia pig, even though I did use to have one, his name was Buddy The Hyper Pipper :D. But I'm actually referring to "King with no Kingdom", the song I've written for the Faisal Goes West short film. Rob of ilyAIMY & I will be getting together later this week & actually do a quick rough recording of the song, & it shall also be a test of the system/style in which we will use to record Novella in 2012.
Its double the excitement for me :)

I'm going into semi-chillaxing mode for the next few days, will be performing at a couple of private events, as well as some awesome public performances. I try not to push it during the holiday season, to allow all of us to celebrate :)

Then we hit hard with the New Year's Eve gig with Carbon Leaf, which we are ALL super excited about, then I will be mostly go in Novella mode! which includes a live debute performance of "Lost The Sun", featuring Robin Fay Massie, founder of Musicians of Mercy, on Violin, & of course my musical partner in crime Sahffi on harmony vocals. All this will happen on January 13th..more details will come soon :)

A slow sweet chance

For the past few YEARS I've been experimenting with all sort of different strings, nylons, brass, 12s, 11s, a hybrid of both!..sigh..but I still struggle to find "that" perfect sound! Earlier this year I traded in my Ash-Tar & got an Epiphone Dot Studio, it was..strange. Because I wasn't even in that shop for a guitar, we were there to get some supplies for Sahffi. We walked in, and we were walking around, then when I came to the guitar section, it was as if everything was blurry, and this was the ONLY guitar in view!..it was like magic..I even miss-read the name "Epiphone" as "Epiphany". It was also on sale, brand new, so I followed my heart & did a trade & paid the difference.
A few months later I was at a musical showcase, and this very cool artist named Mike Sharp, had a similar guitar, but it sounded very warm, almost acoustic sounding. I chatted with him & asked about the guitar and he tells me that he uses "flat wound" strings, they are brass, but not as abrasive on the fingers as normal strings, which makes for smoother playability. So I went and bought a stack.
Last week Sahffi & I were playing a show in Philly as goatFISH, and the headlining band Gavilan (from PA), had an amazing lead guitar player, he was INSANE.
Seeing that + my Ibanez acting up recently, but not holding the tune, and always off by half a pitch with drives me up the walls. I've decided to take a stab at making "Epiphany" my main instrument, some time this week I'm hoping to re-string it with the "flat wounds" & see what happens.
2012 is a new year, maybe its time for a new instrument change :)

goatFISH
Sahffi & I have been playing a LOT of show as a duo, & we decided that we need to find a name for this duo! we can't keep going as "Sahffi & Mosno" or "Sah/Mos", so after many emails & thought provoking thoughts (wait..does that make sense) we have decided to by the name goatFISH.
That has now brought up ANOTHER project for us, many people now expect to buy a "goatFISH" album, instead of a "Sahffi" + "Mosno" album. Well, the customer is always right! right? :)
So we have decided that in 2012 we shall record an acoustic goatFISH album for our upcoming shows.
yay!

2012 is going to be busy as all hell, trying new instruments, working on "Novella", making the song for the "Faisal goes west" movie, & now making a goatFISH album.
I wish I can afford to hire a clone, a Mos 2.0 would be very handy this time around :)

The 2012 countdown.

Starting Thursday the countdown to the new year begins, with it comes our preparation for the New Year's gig with Carbon Leaf. I'm SUPER excited about that.
We have our official NYE rehearsal this week, & get ready to ROCK out on Dec/31st :)

This past weekend I had a blast, got to meet several new local musicians,visited the family for the holiday. But what stands out in my mind is my debut performance for a Sudanese audience, I was scared out of my mind to be honest :D, but it turned out really well. The response was very overwhelming, I was treated like a rockstar, it really meant a lot to me to know that the Sudanese Youth here enjoy what I'm doing.
Big shout out to the Sudanese Unity Project (Sup!) for putting together that awesome event, I really appreciate all the love & support you have provided, you gals & guys are the best :)

This week Sahffi & I are going to be quit busy, we have some back to back shows liked up including DC / Chestertown / & Philly.

The "Faisal Goes West" movie will start production in January 2012, & I actually started writing a song specifically for this film. Writer/Director Bentley Brown likes what I've written so far, I have some cool ideas for its arrangement, so I can't wait to finish writing it so I can get it done in time.

I am so humbled & over whelmed with joy at the same time.
I'm officially the opening act for award winning, recording & tourning band "Carbon Leaf" at the New Year's Eve Downtown Countdown.

On Nov.20th I participated in the Band 2 Band Combat, thanks to Music 4 More for setting that up.
I shared the stage with American Hollar & Cover Me Badd.
It was a fun night filled with music, friends, & intense waiting.

Backing me up were the beautiful & talented:
Sahffi (harmony vox) | Kristen Jones (cello) | Heather Lloyd (djembe)
For the NYE Gig I'm thinking of adding my good & talented friend Rob of ilyAIMY on guitar, so we can rock out even harder :).

The amount of love & congratulations from everyone online has been over flowing, even my good friend GW of The Inverse Delirium put up a congrats post for me :D, how awesome is that. I love my Baltimore peeps, they are just so awesome!

I'm just going to be on cloud 900 for the rest of this YEAR at this point :D
I can't wait.

Thank you to everyone who have supported me, to everyone who came out to the show, & everyone who was texting and tweeting me 'good luck', this was a big win not just for me, but for original Baltimore music.

The Concept Album: Post #10

Great news.
The Story Book.
Yesterday I've met with my good friend J.Fox, who will be creating the actual "Story Book" for Novella, as well as the album cover. We discussed several things, from main characters to colors to little tiny details to make the book enjoyable.
As most of you know, the album will have a Narrator, & since that is a large part of the story, we've decided to add the narrations as well as the lyrics of the songs to the book. I am SUPER excited about it now.
I'm even thinking of having a limited edition of the story book that will be signed by the main characters, how cool will that be.

Novella slowly comes to life.
I'm also equally as excited to announce that joining the musical cast of Novella, will be the talented viola player Robin Fay Massie of Musicians of Mercy (M.o.M). Not only that, but in January, as a thank you to Robin, I will be performing a set for the M.o.M, in that set I will be performing one of the Novella songs, which will feature Robin on the viola...LIVE! oh yes! its happening :)

I can NOT express my joy, honor, and pure excitement to see all these amazing events happen to Novella..and ALL with in 24 hours! Holy Moly Guacamoley.

Thank you all for you love & support of this project, and I can't wait to share even MORE information with you in the near future.

The beginning of year 2.

So by celebrating my 1-year MUSE-aversarry last weekend, I humbly (& hyperly) start Mosno: Year 2. & I'm LOVING it thus far :).

During this week...
-I get to re-visit Bloombars in DC, as I Djembe for my partner in musical crime Sahffi, who is featuring (Nov/7).
-Then I get to have an Acoustic t3N appearance at Teavolve (Nov/8).
-Meet with Mat of Mobtown Studios to discuss the upcoming concept album (Nov/9).
-Playing the "Artists For World Harmony" show with Sahffi as goatFISH at The Electric Maid (Nov/11).
-Go to my big brother bear's birthday party (Nov/12).
-Rehearsal (Nov/13).
-& of course the Band 2 Band Combate at The WindUp Space (Nov/20).

Needless to say, during this week, I will be setting up my Room studio to prepare to start recording the new album. I'm excited to get things set up, and get the ball rolling with that.

So as you see, I'm not planning on stopping the momentum anytime soon. Thank you to everyone who came & participated at the 1-Year Anniversary. I had a blast playing with Naked Blue & Sahffi, we even had CAKE!! :D

The Concept Album: Post #9

The 14th & Final addition to NOVELLA.
I'm proud to announce that I have written the 14th track for the Novella Album, even thought the 13 tracks that I had already written were sufficient, I still felt that something was missing.

Since I've learned the word "Totem", I've been wanting to write a song for it, and my concept album provided the perfect opportunity, I just wasn't able to piece it all together. I sat down one day and actually composed the chord progression that I wanted to use, it also came with a melody, which I hummed to myself, but I didn't have any lyrics.
I then did a research on MY Totem and actually printed out the information so I could physically have it when I'm sitting in my bedroom's floor with the guitar :)
I was determined to craft the song using all of main points I've found in those 3 sheets of research paper..and I felt very proud that I was able to do it.

I've listened to the song SEVERAL times now, it has passed my "tarVo Test", & now I'm hearing the instruments I would like to have in the song, now comes the planning part. I need to find the people I know who play those instruments and hopefully they would honor me by accepting to play on my track, then its a very exciting down hill trip from there :)

The tarVo Test
Many of you are probably asking "what the heck is a 'tarVo Test' ?".
Its a method, or strategy that I use to determined if the song is good or not.
tarVo stems from two words: guiTAR + VOcals.
I write all my songs (excluding the songs crafted with t3N) on my guitar, they all simply start with guitar & vocals..so to me, if the song isn't pretty enough, compassionate enough, or strong enough on its own, meaning with just guitar + vocals, then I need to work on it some more.
Of course note EVERY song would pass my "tarVo Test" with flying colors, but those that do, end up being the ones that everyone love so much, such as "Tuesday Lady", "Land & Sea", & now "Shukran, My Totem". I'm extremely excited, and I can NOT wait to start sharing some more of my "tarVo" approved NOVELLA songs, including "People of the Blue Desert", which was written in ONE sitting! now that's a TRUE tarVo song in my book :)
All this will happen at the 1-Year Anniversary Show on Nov 5th featuring Sahffi & the amazing Naked Blue.

A School Apperance

I"m excited to announce that Sahffi & I will be performing for the international students of Northeast Middle School. The school is trying to encourage these students to embrace the English language, & one way they want to do that is via music.
Live music would be a new (& hopefully exciting) experience for them, plus they get to have a Q & A session with us after our performance.

I"m really excited, & a little scared to be honest, I will let you know how it goes for sure, also this would mark the EARLIEST gig I have played to date! hahaha :D.

...for not posting on time, it just has been a crazy few days for me, but I do have some good news for ya :)
This Sunday, Sahffi & I will be playing the New S.N.A.F.U. in Ellicott City. We are very excited about it.

Sunday Oct/9th | Pure Wine Cafe | 7pm- 9pm.
Its free to enter, but we do encourage donations for the artist.

ALSO, next month, my musical career will be 1 year old!..can you believe it!? Wow! So I've been setting up that show as well, SUPER excited as you might imagine.

Yay Autumn

Autumn is here, & I'm very happy about it :D.
The Autumn trilogy songs are giving me an idea of yet another musical album, but I'm trying to slow my self down so I can focus on finishing up the current one that I'm working on :)

This week is going to be fun, on Wednesday Sahffi & I will be playing in Fairfax VA, and then at the end of the week we shall be playing at what is called "The Dam Jam 2011" which has been getting some press recently.

The benefit show we had for the Jineen Freedom Theater was a SUPER success, many people came by, & we raised a nice chunk of cash for the cause, so thank you all very much for helping us make it such a success.

I apologize for not having a post yesterday, but I was out of commission, in a good way. I really wanted to get started on some of my musical side projects, so I re-arranged my entire room, had to move my desk, re-wire old & new toys to make sure that when ever muse strikes, I would be ready to capture it. I even tested the wiring by creating a new instrumental track to make sure that everything worked. Now I have the Mos-Studio set up in my room, I can't WAIT to get started :D

New Songs
I've been in a creative mode recently, I have melodies, researched topics & ideas. Just need to connect all of them together to get some news out.

-The melody:
I have will be for a song called "Totem", I don't have lyrics yet, but I have a feeling it will be something awesome.

-Researched topics:
For a while now I've wanted to write a song for my favorite season, Autumn. So I did some research and found an array of fantastic information, dating back to 3 cultures. Gaelic, Indian, & Chinese. So I decided to create An Autumn Trilogy of songs, using the information I have found.

-Idea:
The other night as I was falling asleep, I said a little prayer asking for guidance from Above with my musical endeavors, and I heard to what sounded like "The Poetry"..then I feel asleep, and my dream relieved the voice was actually saying "The Poet Tree". Sahffi & I discussed this idea over brunch and jotted down some ideas..its going to be a REALLY awesome song I can feel it :)

The Concept Album: Post #8

As you have read on my last news letter, the album as been officially written, & now I'm in the process of brain storming some ideas for the production, there might even be an extra song added to this project as well, we'll see how that goes :)

I'm also proud to announce that I will be featured an array of my super talented friends such as: Sahffi, Teporah, Khaled, Aileen Sabira, Marc Evans, Joe Scala, & of course Koan.
Co-producer Number S1X & I will be getting together to discuss details soon, I honestly can not WAIT to get started with this project.

I'm a big fan of the Autumn season, & I have a feeling that will help my inspiration. I don't know what it is, but just the atmosphere makes me feel like everything is at peace.

My good friends at International Lifeline Fund are screening a very important film called "One Water", which informs us about the importance of knowing that at this very moment, half of the Globe's water supply is contaminated.

I will have the privileged to giving a solo performance at the Rooftop reception after the screening of this film.
This all happens at September 1st.

The Concept Album: Post #7

Much progress is happening with "Novella", very excited to share the updates with you.
The song "Lucid" is officially written, YAY. This is the song in which I co-wrote with my partner in muscial crime Sahffi. It has come out so beautiful, it literally sounds like a song a water person would write, LOVE IT.

I also think I might finally have an idea for the final song of the album, so hopefully I'll have that written soon. I'm still playing around with the idea, but I think this little spark WILL manifest into a completed song soon *crossing my fingers & guitar strings* :)

I wanted to thank you all once again for supporting this project, many of my talented friends have been sharing their excitement about this album with me, I am flattered & honored. Not to mention scared out of my mind now, hahaha!.

I'm just glad to see that my work is being so accepted, and that many people are already relating to the album. I honestly didn't think it would have THIS kind of response, I was just simply being open about the "journey", but it seems like many people have walked (& are still walking) that same path.
So I can't WAIT to start sharing more of these songs with you all, it'll be a BLAST!

Monday: will be heading down to DC with Sahffi for and appearance at Bloombars.

Tuesday: will be my performance with the international group t3N at Teavolve.

Wednesday: will be collaborating with Sahffi for our song for the "Novella" album.

Thursday: backing up Sahffi at her feature set on Acoustic Thursdays.

Friday: rehearsal with touring artist Nelly's Echo for our Sah/Mos Echo show coming up in August 26th.

The Concept Album : Post #5

Much progress has happened since the last post about this awesome project.
Here are some of the major updates for it.

Update 1: The Name
I finally have a suitable name for the album, I had mentioned it in one of my last newsletters, but in case you don't get my newsletters (shame on you), I shall tell you.
I've decided to call the album "NOVELLA".
It makes sense, the meaning of "novella" is "a short long story, or a long short story". Which I think is perfect.

Update 2: The Songs
The number of songs in this album has gone "up", so now I'm shooting for eleven (11) tracks on this album, which I think is a good number, not too long, and not too short, just enough to tell the story.
One of the "songs" will actually be a poem written & read by my good & talented friend Aileen Sabira, & one song I'm co-writing with my partner in crime Shaffi, who will also be singing that entire song on the album.

Update 3: Production
Part 1/2
I'm very excited about this part, I will be working with a very imaginative local producer called Number S!x, he produced Shaffi's "Ticktock Islands" track on her latest album "Expectations", check it out and you'll know why I decided to work with him.

Part 2/2
I'm going to go super indie, so I bought a Zoom R24, that is a portable, digital, multi-track recorder. It also works as a controller, & an interface. I'm sure I'll have to go into the studio for some minor things, but I want a specific feel.
The album is about a journey, so there for I want to capture that, we will do some outside recording, next to streams, trees, & all kinds of goodies to help enhance the experience, which is why I got that little beast.

Update 4: Completion
I'm proud to say that I now only have 2 songs to write, and I would be DONE with that section, then it would be time for tweaking some of the songs, until they feel right.

I think progress is being made in a major way, I'm happy at the pace things are going, and I only hope that the momentum keeps going. The sooner my writing is done, the sooner I can start crafting them into fully completed songs.

It'll be a very intimate solo environment so I'll get to play many of my slow jams, who knows I might remix one of fast crazy songs into a cool groovy crazy song :D

THIS Friday, I open up Artscape & become the very FIRST Sudanese to play North America's largest free festival! EVER!

Reason #2:
As of Monday July.11th.2011 t3N's first single "Live 4 Now" is at #3 in the Top 100 Soulful House songs genre. Thanks for the great news Foliage Records :)

Reason #3:
I have received my portable digital recorded last weekend, which means, as soon as this crazy weekend is done, I will get started on experimenting for "Novella", my full length concept album!

The Jersey Fest
I want to personally thank Katie, Joe, & The Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce for allowing me to join them at SummerFest 2011, it was a blast, everyone was SUPER friendly & kind, & I won a frisbee :)
Katie, Joe, & I go by the name Purple Empress. We actually played "Guilt & Empathy" with Joe on guitar, Katie on back up vox, & I played the Djembe AND Sang the whole song while drumming..it was INSANE! I didn't even know I can do that..don't worry, videos will be up soon for sure!. I had a great time at Point Pleasant, and enjoyed the Jersey Shore very much, so thank you to the Bower & Scala family for showing me around, it was awesome.

Jersey Fest Day 2

So the festival is today, its estimated there will be about 30 thousand people there, eeeeek, we are so excited.

Yesterday we basically slept a little, then we all went to dinner & had so many laughs, the owner of the restaurant asked us to perform, one of the event coordinators is in love with Kati & Joe's EP.

Jersey Fest: Day 1

We just entered New Jersey, Kaite, Joe & I are playing the Jersey Shore Festival tomorrow at 2pm. We go by the band name "Purple Empress", this will be a great practice for my Artscape gig next month.

I forgot my Laptop charger at work when I was formatting it the other day, grrrr x(. So the posts will be made through my phone during this trip.

I am proud to announce that The Concept album is coming along nicely. I'm about 3 songs away from completing the writing portion of the album. Last week Sahffi & I sat together and had a great writing session for the song "Lucid" in which she will be singing in the album, form the perspective of "Ocean Girl", one of the main characters of this album's story.

I was having a conversation with my good friend, & amazing photographer JT, & she gave me some really cool ideas for the album. I'm seriously now starting to think out of the box, literally. I'm still working some of the tiny details in my head, but once I figure it out, then this album will be MUCH more interesting then it already is :)

Yay! Friday!

I had a blast last night, I'd like to thank Sahffi & Michael Harris of Bossalingo for helping me out last night. I was the opening act for the St. Jude Benefit Concert, I must say, I was a little intimidated. All the other acts were mostly dressed in black shirts, with tattooed arms, and either super short or super long hair. Everybody assembling their drum kits, and checking their distortion pedals & what not. Then I show up, a dressed up desert boy with a chocolate acoustic guitar!. I'm telling you, it was a MOVIE scene hahahaha :D.

Then our good friend & fan Donna showed up, & that made me feel a little comfortable, then Brooks Long showed up, & our good friend & awesome guitarist Santendrix came out to support as well. So I said to my self..I should rock just for them. you know?

I think the soundman (who I think was a member of the headlining band All Thee Above) was not comfortable with acoustic instrument, they are after all a loud distorted rock band. But we made due, adjusted the sound as we went along, & finished our set in peace.

What REALLY surprised me was the response, while on stage I saw all these hardcore rockers bopping their heads to my tunes, and being very attentive. Wow! that was AWESOME. Then after the show I got some very cool complements, one rocker came up to me & told me that "Billie Jean" was the song that won him over, another rocker came & shook my hand & told me that it took balls for me to come play at such a distortion heavy event, & that he really liked "Tuesday Lady".

I was totally blown away, I LOVE Baltimore musicians, all these awesome super hard rockers are Baltimore artists, & they all took the time to come complement me on my work & give me words of encouragement. I felt really blessed.
Such an awesome evening, this will be one hell of a chapter when I write my memoirs as an Eastern rocker in the West :D..I might call this chapter "The desert boy with the camel tattoo". Catchy, right?

The St Jude Situation.

As of right now I'm back on the bill.
I apologize for all this confusion. Here is what happened.

I got a call from the Label's manager on Monday telling me that I didn't have enough tickets sold, so I was asked to either:
1- Play at 12:30am
2- Be taken off the bill

So I chose to be taken off the bill, because 12:30 was just too late, & I made the sad announcement of not being on the show, & canceled the gig with the band AND the dancer.

Today.
Tuesday May/24 around 9:30pm I get a call back from the label.
They not only apologized, but asked me to play the opening spot at the show at 6:15pm.

My online tickets are still Zero, but they said that when they were talking with the other bands, opinions were voiced & I was highly recommended.
So now, they REALLY want to see me perform.

Since I unfortunately canceled with the band, this will be a simple duo performance. Sahffi & I were planning on going to the event any way to support the cause, so why not entertain since we can.

No more lunch + possible live album + gigs

No More Lunch:
Thursday Lunchtime No more!
I have decided to stop playing the lunchtime gig at Potbellys, it was nice while it lasted, but I've been getting a little busy, and it seemed to (at times) cripple my calendar. So I will no longer be doing that on Thursdays. BUT Sahffi still plays there every Wednesday & Friday from Noon-2pm, so you should totally still go and support her & the awesome venue.

Possible Live Album:
Last year I had an awesome show at An Die Musik music hall with my fellow t3N members (Marc Evans, Sahffi, & DJ N'Dinga Gaba), it was amazing. I will be getting the live recording of performance soon *crossing fingers*. I'm hoping that the quality of sound (as well as the performance) came out well, if so. I'm thinking of possibility selling it on my Bandcamp account, to help bring in some revenue to fund The Concept Album.
What do you think of that idea? let me know.

Gigs:
With this BEAUTIFUL weather we are having, many festivals are "springing" up as we speak. Sahffi & I (aka Sah/Mos) picked up a long slot of acoustic goodness, & genre defying-ness, at this weekend's "Arts in Park". We will be playing Saturday from 3:30-5pm..wow! In these kinds of situation, I tend to bring out a LOT of songs that I don't normally play, or try out new material. So if your interested in hearing a couple of songs from the new album, & some Pre & Post Mosno era! then you should totally come down to see us.

I'm honor to say that my Elvis cover of "Mirage" won the friendly challenge at Six Mile Coffee last week, sweeet. I got 3 prizes for it. A $10 certificate to Six Mile Coffee, a $10 certificate to House of Musical Traditions, & the "Almost In Love" Elvis vinyl, its SO freakin cool, yay.
Rob of ilyAIMY (who hosts this open mic) was awesome enough to actually record the event & post it on his UStream channel. You can see all the performances here (my cover is around the 1:58:47 mark) :)

The blow out
Sahffi blessed the Friday gig at teavolve by playing the 1st set of the show, & doing a great job as usual, she also backing instant Sound Gal (thank you Sahff-Sahff)

Ms.Fridrich set was really cool, she brought a couple of her choir singers to back her up, while she rocked out on Piano, it was really neat. :)

My set was going well, until half way through my guitar started giving out, so Sahffi was kind enough to allow me to play "Maria" her beautiful custom made guitar, things seemed to be going well, then during the last song "Guilt & Empathy", the speakers popped and just stop sending out sound..literally during the very last chorus.
So Sahffi, Jon, & I just said that last part with no mics! poor Kristen was stranded on the cello, because she was using her electric one, she couldn't do anything at that point :(
But people still seemed to have enjoyed the "dynamics" of show, also another bummer was my good friend Alejandra & her Husband came to see me perform for the 1st time in almost 5 years ago, sigh! but she was so supportive she bought 2 CDs one for her, and the other for a friend, I love you guys!.

Now during this week, we'll have to test out Sahffi's P.A. to figure out what the problem is. Luckily I have a P.A. for us to use during that time, its older, so it usually sounds like I'm singing from the bottom of a well, so we'll have to figure out the right adjustments for that as well...man, thats a lot of P.A. Testing!
BUT we still were able to make all our gigs this weekend, and still sound good.
yay perseverance.

Interview
This Saturday I did my interview with Good Music Good People Show, & let me tell you, it.was.AMAZING. We had so much fun, it was very dynamic, & those ladies did their homework. We spoke about many things, including my upcoming concept album, & I even did an in studio EXCLUSIVE live performance, which was not only recorded, but video taped. So when the interview gets posted, it will have a music video of my performance. VERY EXCITED.
Thanks to the GMGP Show Crew for their hospitality & a great time. I can't wait for the finished product :D.

Since then, the two of us have grown A LOT as musicians, & we've decided to combine forces once more & play again, so come on down and enjoy the musical madness.

The Concept Album : Post #3

I think it is appropriate that on Post #3, I would have the good news that "Song #3" is well on its way :). I have been able to finally finish up a 1st draft of the FULL song. I'm very excited about it. & even more! I've started a draft for the chorus of a 4th song, the one that will deal with the "Labyrinth", very exciting stuff.

A quick recap:
1.Land & Sea (done \ played at shows \ almost at recording stage)
2.Lost the sun (done \ started playing it)
3.Mother (have the 1st draft of full song)
4.Labyrinth (have 1st draft of chorus)

I must say, I'm starting to get very VERY excited :D

Sorry for not updating on Monday as usual, but I was zonked OUT! so much energy was put out on Sunday, that I literally was a zombie all day Monday, and part of Tuesday :)

The Peace In The Middle East Concert was AMAZING! wow, so many talented people. I was honored to have not one, not two, but THREE lovely dancers, who TOTALLY rocked out to my tunes. If I'm not mistaken, I think all 3 originals were requested by them too. I'm so honored that my music is so highly thought of, I feel like a freaking ROCK Star. :)
Thank you to all the lovely dancers, I'm sure this will happen again SOON.
Thanks to Khaled for brain-childing this awesome event, & to Jon & Emsu for helping us put it together :). I'm sure more awesomeness will be on the way.

I had the great fortune of spending my weekend with Rob & Heather of ilyAIMY, they asked me to join them on their 1st NACA conference. It was intense, but we all defiantly learned a lot. We go to meet some very cool people, & saw some very entertaining performances. Slam poets, stand up comedians, jugglers, bands, it was an awesome weekend filled with all kinds of entertainment, its actually gotten me all pumped up to be all creative & such.

I got to see my good friend Nelson of Nelly's Echo, we chatted & talked about all the craziness we had on the road. We also made some new friends The Headlocks, who are from New York, were our booth neighbors, very cool dudes, we had some good laughs, & conversations about geese! very entertaining stuff I tell you :)

This week is going to be pretty awesome.

Home Again, yay!

I'm very pleased to say that I had a great time touring with Nelly's Echo, it was a lot of fun, a learning experience, & DEFIANTLY tiering..but in a cool rock-star kind of way :). I got to meet new people, have road adventures, & go places that are too cold for me to go willingly, hahahah! :)

My music calendar for the rest of month looks pretty good, & I'm MORE than grateful for it. Thank you.
This week I will be going with ilyAIMY to the NACA Conference, I've had the honor of them asking me to run their booth for the weekend, so needless to say it will be a great opportunity for me to check out this organization for future references.

Then on March 15th (FREE) t3N & Alternate Seduction turn Teavolve into the hottest Club in town, with groovy house beats & live vocals. Its going to be SWEEET!
7pm-9pm

March 27th ($10 public / $5 GMU: students, staff, employees) is the FIRST of the Peace In The Middle East Concert series, which will be at George Mason University. I honestly can't WAIT for this. Some of the proceeds will be going to Children of Peace to help their amazing works of peace. Don't miss this, SO many people will be performing, AND we've gotten word that The Washington Post is sending someone over to cover the event, & possible Al-Jazeera / Al-Hurra. We even got a WRITE UP! :D

The Echo Tour Day #6 (Last Day)

6:24am @ BTV International Airport in Burlington, Vermont.
It was a wild ride I must say, I had a great time touring with my friend Nelson of Nelly's Echo. It was defiantly a learning experience, for us both. I'm defiantly more of a Road-Tripping guy, than I am a flying guy. I got screened today actually for the first time ever! (hmm I wander why?).

Today will defiantly be one of those memorable musical days, I will be here at the airport for about 6 hours or so (I will explain why in a second) my flight leaves around 11am, change flights in Philly, & get to Baltimore around 2:30pm (yay). Go home (thanks to my awesome house-mate Rob of ilyAIMY), change, shower, possibly take a nap!..then I'm of to The Living Well for a show with Sahffi tonight (which you should TOTALLY come to by the way) Its an Art & Musical ShowCase. Oh Yea, no rest for the rockstars yo! :)

The Explanation.
There are two reasons to why I have to be at the airport today for 6 hours or so. It started off with us getting our car rental from Budget Car Rentals..they were..satisfactory..kind of. So the car had to be returned by 6am today..then we found out that Nelson's flight LEAVES at 6am today...so naturally we needed to be here earlier. Our hotel is about 2 hours away, so we made sure we gave our selves plenty of time. We got to the airport around 4:30am, I dropped Nelson off to go check in, then parked & returned the car keys. & that's why I have to be here for 5+ hours. yay ?..umm no.

Have no fear, I've anticipated this, so yesterday I bought 3 DvDs that will hopefully keep me entertained until its time for me to start heading home. "August Rush", "Godsend", & "The Matrix Collection" which has all 3 matrix films + The Animatrix on 2 DvDs. I have seen all 4, but it is one of my personal favorites.
So in a few minutes I will check out "Godsend" first, because I'm in the mood for a thriller, to keep my blood pumping..oooo yeeeaah! :)

I must say I'm very excited to be coming home, I hope you have enjoyed my "Echo Tour" entries, & I can't wait to see all my lovely Baltimore people again, w00t! :)

The Echo Tour Day #5

6:41pm Vermont Time.
This is the last leg of the tour :(, but was fun for sure. Tomorrow is going to be CRAZY, Nelson's flight leaves at 6am, mine leaves at 11am..the car has to be returned by 6am, & the airport is a 2 hour drive from here. Yay.

So it looks like we are leaving at 3am to make it to the airport by 5am to give Nelson time to check in, than I get to wait about 5 hours for my flight.

I'm not going down like that, I went to an FYE at the strip mall near the hotel & bought a few movies "August Rush", "Godsend", & "The Matrix Collection", that way I have something to keep me entertained, hopefully I'll be able to log into Facebook/Twitter & chat evetyone up for a bit too :)

We're about to head out for SoundCheck in a bit, I'll update again soon :)

The Echo Tour Day #3

6:21pm Maine time.
We have successfully made it into Maine, the drive wasn't that bad, it took us about 4 hours or so, my Zune kept us company the whole way AND its still in near full charge..I love that device :D.
We are heading out in a few for Sound Check, then rock out @ 8pm. w00t!!

10:36pm Maine Time
We had a great time at Husson University, everyone was so receptive. One of my highlight points was our new friend Ben. He had to leave towards the end of our show, but his friend Catrina was with there for the whole show. So after the show she called Ben & put him on speaker phone, he wanted to tell us how much he loved our show, & apologized for having to leave early. That was so touching.

They actually had a "freak snow storm" during our set, but it was snowing when drove into main. So needless to say its not very mOsno friendly weather, but the students were SUPER friendly.

We are now in the hotel, warm & dry from the stinky snow. Tomorrow we start our Road-Trip back to Boston for a show at Boston College.

I must say, I am getting a little home sick. I miss you my Baltimore, peeps :)

The Echo Tour Day #2

We have arrived at Boston airport, we got here earlier than expected, so I spent the past few hours sleeping on the floor, ooooh yea, we're hardcore like that.

Its 5am now, the plan now is to get a rental car, & head to the hotel, rest up for our show tonight at Lesily Univercity.

We had a great time yesterday performing at The Basement, an outdoor area for the students, it was so much fun, & everyone was so niiiice, thank you Austin, TX :)

Very excited about today, I can't wait to get this road trip on the road, wohoo :)

****Update****
2pm Boston Time.
Nelson & I were able to check in early this morning, Thank you Days Hotel, you guys rock! :) Needless to say we both slept like LOGS, it was wonderful. I actually had a little freak out, because I woke up & it was 9:51, & the room was completely dark, so I thought it was 9:51pm & JUMMPED out of bed! because I thought we just missed out gig (which starts around 8pm)...then I looked at my phone and it was 9:51am..*sigh*, Jet lag isn't fun kids, don't do it.

We are up, showered, hungry as hell, & ready to rock :) Nelson is out & about running some errands, & I'm here updating you :). Our show tonight will be at Lesely University, & we can't wait.

I FORGOT to tell you, the guy who works at the car rental place is a hand drummer from Uganda, needless to say he was very happy to see me walk in with my gigantic Djembe, we all exchanged information, & as a surprise for us, he gave us a fully loaded Mercury SUV for our trip! its a bitchin car I must say. mp3 input, CD player, can seat 705 people, magnificent! we love it :)

I'll have another update tonight after the gig to let you know how it went.

We had an awesome night at Lesley University, thank you so much to CAB (Campus Activities Board). They were so awesome, & they even got us "lights", it was awesome.

My good friend Khaled from NYC, had contacted me earlier this year, he was trying to put a show together that consisted of Arab/Jewish musician, to prove that we CAN tolerate each other as humans. So I contacted a few of my good friends, & we were able to put our 1st show together.

The Concept Album : Post #1

I have some exciting news! :)
The past few days I've been posting 'the making of', & the '1st draft' of a new song called "Land & Sea". But I haven't actually told you the significants of that song :D.
Well, its a new year, there for I have decided to work on a new musical project.
I personally think its a step up for me, here is what's going on :)

When I wrote the song "Land & Sea", I used 2 characters to tell the story, Desert Boy & Ocean Girl. I played the song live in several occasions & the response has been great, so it sparked an idea. I had always wanted to write a concept album, but I never really knew how to approach it. Something about these characters just spoke to me, so I decided to use them for the concept album.

So I contacted a friend of mine who writes fantasy novels, & she loved the idea. So now she is developing a story for my two characters, & as her story progresses, I shall start writing more songs relating to the story, there by creating the album. The Fairy Tale will also be provided in some way or form :)

My brother mEeZo & I have worked together in the past on my very 1st EP called "low-tech", we since then have collaborated on & off, but never a chance to actually sit & "work" work. We finally got a chance to get together, and decided to experiment with my latest piece "Land & Sea".

Musical News of Baltimore

It has been a great year for music in Baltimore, thank God :). So many projects have kept me more than busy, and I love it.
I just got word the Austin Ellis has now officially released his E.P. with a full album to follow soon. Sahffi's "Expectations" album is also almost done, we are all very excited about that & can't wait to see how all the different producers worked with the Sahffi Songs :). My t3N-bro DJ N'Dinga Gaba is on a South African tour, due to the HUGE success of the song "Summer Breeze" featuring our lovely Sahffi (video at the end of this page).

All of this is getting me hyped up! :D. I want to start working on my full-length album, and I do have enough material, I just haven't figured out how I want the album to be. My last E.P. "The Un-Genre" featured several local artist, and was themed, in a way, to blend into different Genres or sounds.

The latest song I've written "Land & Sea", has these 2 characters, a boy from the desert (of course), and a girl from the Sea (think mermaid, maybe?). I'm thinking of maybe trying to develop a story of some kind, and write a few more songs about them, and possible have a little concept album or EP depending on how many songs I can write.
I personally haven't written a concept album before, so I'm very new to this. Most of my songs are written due to personal experience, & certain fantasies, but I've never sat down and figured out a whole story for an album. Yet I'm very excited by it :D.

What do you think? do you like it, do you not like it? Have you done anything similar to this before? could you share your experience with me?

With all my recent activity, I was very excited to be able to sit down and write a new song. It is called "Land & Sea", so far those who got the chance to hear it have enjoyed the song, and think the name fits it well.

In the coming few days, I will do my best to start playing the songs that I wish to put in my next album. Its always good to be comfortable playing new songs out before recording. These will include songs such as "You never answer", "Description", & "Healer".

Some of my upcoming events I will be Djembing for several artists both here in Baltimore, and out of state.

I will keep you posted on the naming of the new guitar, its still beautiful, but still remains nameless.

It is with great pleasure & excitement, that I mention this next gig. My good man Khaled will be performing with sahffi & I at Teavolve.

Khaled is another genre defying artist from New York, by way of Palestine. We had a successful couple of gigs the past few months, one in DC, and the other in New York City.

Sahffi of course needs no introduction, she is now gaining a lot of attention from South Africa due to her single "Summer Breeze" with DJ/Producer N'Dinga Gaba of Global Diplomacy.

There is a chance that my full band might be there, that includes Jonthan Fell on percussion, and Kristen Jones on cello. Also Khaled, sahffi, & I will be collaborating on a few songs together, so you defiantly don't want to miss that :)

mOsno Machine

I know some of you have heard me mention the "mOsno Machine", what I was referring to at that point was my "future" guitar. For the past few years I was known for my beautiful Ibanez guitar, which was later labeled as "The AshTar"..well I figured its time for a "MosTar", and yesterday I go it :)

I took time, did my research, and found that one that really "represents" me. Its currently in the shop being "modified", oh yes, I'm getting that baby modified. My good man Brennan of Petal Blight mentioned something to me a few months ago, and it was that I always had the tendency of installing Nylon strings on any guitar I get. I love the warm sound of it, and it goes really well with my music.
So that's the route I'm going with. I found a BEEE-autiful guitar, and I'm getting it modified to play nice with Nylon strings.

Once I have it back, I will let you all know "where" it will appearing..and if you want to see it, you will have to come out to that show :)
If that's not intensive enough, in the near future I will start playing songs in which I'm thinking of putting in my next album..so you will now have TWO reasons to come out. :)

Show with KuKu + More news.

Saturday Sept.18.2010 \ 8pm \ @ Teavovle:
Tonight I have a show with International Nigerian artist Kuku. I shall be accompanied by the lovely sahffi, who will also get to play a couple of songs with me. We are very excited about this show, because Kuku is not only a fantastic musician & performer, but also a good friend of mine. I'm really looking forward to it.

In other News:
I am now officially part of NasJota Records, the 1st Sudanese label here in America. I had a skype session with E-Hab, president of the company, who is also the person making my "Beautiful Mercy" music video, and he sees potential in me going international (Insha Allah: God Willing), so the journey begins :)

Many things are going to be happening in October, including two magazine articles, two internet radio appearances, (my music video possibly), and not to mention the 10\10\10 show, its going to be an Amazing month (Insha Allah)

Also, sahffi & I were asked to be in a Public Service Announcement, for Music 4 More, its a great organization that is trying to keep music programs in Public Schools. That should also be coming sometime in October as well.

Mosno, the Producer?

I'm proud to say I can add "producer" to my repertoire of musical skills now :)
Yesterday I was at Mobtown Studios, and I think we all did a fine job with sahffi's "Heart Strings". Her idea for this album is 10 songs with 10 producers. I was lucky enough to snag this beauty before it was taken, and yesterday was a joyous day indeed. He have mix one of the song and it sounds lovely, its a very haunting tune, so I played on that by adding cello (Kristen Jones), background vocals (Shelly Work), a very basic Djembe beat + shakers.
I must say, the simplicity of it is amazing, and whats more is that sahffi her self really likes how the song came out.
Maybe there is hope for me after all :)
