WinterMuse Day #5

WinterMuse is a "Stream of Consciousness" writing exercise that I will do everyday in December. Thank you for all the suggestions.

Today's word is:
Empathy

Its WinterMuse:

To feel another’s pain, to emotionally connect with a fellow planet dweller’s misfortune. It is noble, and sometimes paralyzing. Yet I don’t know of a word which encourages you to connect to another’s victory. I find it amusing that as humans we chose which emotions we want to share, yet we do not decide to share the good emotion, but the bad. True there is good and bad in this world but it seems we are gravitated towards the bad. We use our linguistic mind to create a word such as “empathy” and give it the meaning of “connecting to pain which is not yours”. It seems that someone did not want us to be happy, or to communicate it in a more than personal level. Why is that? Its been 2012 years, yet I have yet to know of a word to connect me to another’s happiness. You may envy it, be jealous of it, but never connect with it. I’m trying as hard as I can to think in my bilingual mind of the opposite of “empathy” but I can not. It seems that as a planet, we all must’ve agreed on this, I wonder if in the language of the trees it is the same, or amongst the other creatures of our blue home. Is the connection to pain only human? Or earthly?
