This past weekend I heard the terrible news that my brother in Peace Emmanuel Jal, known for his peace activism, and album "War Child", was beaten by police in South Sudan as he was preparing for a Peace Concert! My thoughts and prayers go out to him, and this is only one more reason to try and help us oust the corrupt governments of the world. It is sad when a Native Son comes home to promote peace through music, and is treated in such a manner.
I was interviewed for Voice of America's Upfront Africa show by my good friend Jackson Mvunganyi, and got a chance to do an acoustic performance of "System Down", and promote the SystemDown.net website.
Accompanying me is my musical partner in crime Sahffi Lynne on djembe.

The Sudan Revolts: Post # 5
I'm very excited about this post today.
Since the SystemDown.net site has gone up, which is about 5 days, the following has happened.
-The video has gotten over 5 thousand views so far.
-I have been able to send 2 donations to Girifna via people buying the song from the site.
-The lyrics have been translated into 4 languages.
-Many people on twitter have been spreading the link like wild fire.
-And, the Sudanese government has banned the site in Sudan, which means I'm doing something right.
Today the good news continue.

As you know I have been working on a song called "System Down" for the current Sudanese Revolution going on in my homeland Sudan, featuring some of awesome Sudanese talents, like my dear friend Ramey Dawoud (lead actor of Faisal Goes West). Its been almost near a month now with the current "Sudan Revolts" movement to oust the current regime.
The president him self, actually said that this movement will be as successful as "trying to lick your elbow" (as in impossible) yet he is threatened enough to detain many young activists, who participate in these peaceful protests. Still, his troops come out, shooting people, and detaining young men & women.
YET the media STILL IGNORES the situation! So it is up to US, the young Sudanese people of the world. Thanks to twitter & YouTube, videos & pictures are being uploaded, blogs are being posted, and we are trying to utilize the internet as best we can to let the world KNOW that something IS happening in our beloved Sudan. The Revolutions is NOT Televised..so my people have to do both, Revolt & Cover their own story!
Well, you know what!? we WILL!

Girifna (We Are Fed Up): is a non-violent resistance movement, which the government is targeting its young members, detaining them for weeks at a time, possibly even torturing them for wanting to lead the country into Democracy.

First of, I hope everyone is safe after the freak storm we had this past weekend, many of us lost electricity for 3 days or more, and trees blocked many of the city streets! so I hope you are all well, and not badly damaged from this crazy weather.
Now!
The song that I have written for the Sudan Revolts movement "System Down" is gaining some momentum, I shall be releasing it soon of course. The reason I haven't yet is due to me waiting on a couple of versions of the song! That is because I'm planning on posting these songs up for sale, and donating all the money generated from it to Girifna, the non-violence movement that helped in starting the Revolt in Sudan (you are more then welcome to donate now if you like too). I want to present you with something you WOULD want to buy, so instead of just a single, it will be 3 different versions of it! with each one featuring different artists, trust me you will like it.
Also, there are TWO videos in the works for this projects, one of them will be an Animation by the Sudanese owned Tartar Studio in Ireland! The other will be video put together by Nas Jota, and Sudanese owned hip-hop label.
I'm glad to see that all of us are pooling our talents together to help spread the word about this movement.
So please be just a little more patient, & I promise it will be worth it.

The Sudan Revolt: post #1
This might not be in the local American media just yet! but there have been protests going on in my beloved Sudan, the people have had it with the current regime, & have taken their voice to the street, the movement is called "Sudan Revolts". The thing thats blowing my mind is the fact that the protests are not JUST in Sudan, they are also in London, & here in America. (Saturday June 30th @ the Sudanese Embassy in D.C.)
I had the honor of being asked to write something for the movement.
I normally don't write political tunes, but I could not refuse, I sat down & got it done that day. I will be recording it soon, and there is even talk of a music video to be made, I will make sure to post it here of course.
The protests started out with the Female students at one of the Universities in Sudan.(more power to you ladies). Also we can not forget the impact of Girifna (We Are Fed Up), which is a non-violent resistant movement. I'm hoping I can use the song to help raise some funds to give to these brave souls.
Here is a heart warming video of people from all around the world supporting the "Sudan Revolts" movement.
