Sudan & Our Sudan (Poem & Video)

Sudan. A Love Poem
by Mosno Al- Moseeki

There is a moonlit sea of sand, where legends and heroes exist.
You can see hope rising, it gently clasps hands with imagination, as they float into the wide majestic night sky.

There are poems in these constellations, for your night's reading pleasure.
A personal portal, which allows the ancients to speak to us in our dreams.
In tongues of songs, and desert pride.

By morning, a bright yellow sun, softly kisses my skin to wake.
The gentle warm wind, blesses my soul with its daily caress
As I plant a solar powered smile on my face, I say..
Its a new day to move forward,
Its a new day to look upward,
Its a new day for your love to linger in my heart, ya Sudan.

Novella & Sudan Centric

 Novella
The song "People of The Blue Desert" featured TWO vocal artists, so lucky YOU, that song's vLog is split into parts 1 & 2. Last Wednesday I released Part 1, which features the lovely Armenian artist Teporah who plays the role of "Angel/Mother" in the Novella storyline.
The video from last week's Novella vLog will be at the bottom of this post.

Sudan Centric
I have been humbled & honored to have so much support in my musical endeavors from my kinsmen and kinswomen of Sudan. I'm especially proud from two recent personal events.

#1: Being accepted into the exclusive Zol & Zola Club, which was founded by the inspiring young Sudanese Wafa Elamin, her TEDxYouth @ Khartoum talk about "Positive Thinking" is what started this movement. The club will act as a platform for talented scientists, artists, entrepreneurs and thinkers to use their individualized talents to promote a new Africa; a strong, vibrant and united people.
I can't wait to start interacting with all these talented individuals :)

"Dr. Gafar Abnouf" 2013 , pencil of paper. Iman Shaggag
#2: I am honored to announce that my album cover will be drawn by the very talented Sudanese artist Iman Shaggag. Who is the founder/designer of the online Sudan Artist Gallery. The photo of the cover will be taken by my dear & talented friend Jennifer Torres-Johnson of JT Photo & Design. Who's work is featured with acclaimed artist Imogean Heap.

I am blown away by this..the fact that I am lucky enough to know so many talented individuals in my life, who are helping prove that we CAN all work together in harmony, & truly are Prototypes not Stereotypes, is just very awesome in my opinion :)

Thank you all for being my friends, I am honored.
Now lets DO this people :)

Shukran, Thank You, & Much Love.

My Thorns, if I were a Desert Rose

Welcome to my Muse Oasis! :)
To be an "Indie Artist", is actually a magnificent social status in my opinion. The universe knows this, which is why when ever you try to become an "Indie", it will totally TEST you, to make sure that you are worthy.
In a recent conversation with fellow indies, the topic of the song "Desert Rose" came up, and in a very humble way, I feel like my musical styling is pretty much that beautiful song, a bit of East & a touch of West.

As I was having one of my long walks the other day, many flowers were blooming, the sun was shining, and it reminded me of the "Desert Rose" song. Through that I realized that there are a couple of "Thorns" that I would like to mention to you :)

Thorn #1
This is a pleasant Thorn actually, on Friday of last week (April/26/2013) my song "Shurkan My Totem" was featured in The Music Biz Weekly Podcast EP# 107. Ironically, one of the presenter's website is "Thorny Bleeder". He does several podcast that give great advice to indie musicians, and his DIY Daily PodCast promotes positivity for all the DIY-ers out there, its really nice.
[Video of this podcast is below]

Thorn # 2
My song "Labyrinth", you may have heard me talk about this song before, it really has been a Thorn in my side. I had to re-write it 3 times, and even after that, it still didn't sound "Right" to me. Being the Arab Capricorn that I am, I just kept going at it head strong, with extreme force, but nothing came to me. Then I remembered my dear friend Sahffi, she has this peaceful approach to her music. So I thought to myself "Well, think like a Shaffi", & it worked :).
I picked up my Sudan colored guitar pedal (The Dez-RT), alchemized a haunting mellow sound, sat in my room for the rest of that day, and BAM! I found the missing elements. I even shared what I did with several of my close friends, and they all gave me the same reaction..which was a roaring "YES!!".

I think if I start coming against any other challenges in the future, I should go into my "Desert Rose" mode, and try to gently clip those thorns, try it some time, and let me know if it works for you too :)

By the way, feel free to join the email conversation with The Soul Philosophers & I in the monthly Desert Symposium, you get one email a month, with some news, & a question to start a conversation with you, or if you have a question for me you could ask that as well. Just add your email into the box at the top left, & as a "Shukran" you get free music :)

If you want to venture deeper into The Muse Oasis, you can become one of The Soul Alchemists, with whom I share exclusive access to my journey, as they become not just supporters but partners in this musical journey I am taking.

Much Love & I'll chat you next week.

Musical Monday

Its been a very interesting week for me, musically.
I've started working on a couple of tunes which I'm excited about, one of which is a Christmas song! well, sort of :)

My friend Alberth MG of Elgato Film Productions in Scotland, contacted me about a Christmas sketch that he is doing, and asked me to write an original tune for the end credits.  As you can imagine, I was very flattered, and a little scared, since I have never written a Christmas song before, I don't even think I know a whole Christmas song by heart! BUT I've decided to accept, and give it a shot.

So far he & the Elgato team seem to like what I have done so far, so hopefully in the next few days I will set up, record, and possible vLog about the tune.
Wish me luck with this Merry Adventure :)

Below is Elgato's Halloween sketch "The Girl Who Is Sitting Next To Me", its very cool. Enjoy :)

A Sudan Post

This past weekend I heard the terrible news that my brother in Peace Emmanuel Jal, known for his peace activism, and album "War Child", was beaten by police in South Sudan as he was preparing for a Peace Concert! My thoughts and prayers go out to him, and this is only one more reason to try and help us oust the corrupt governments of the world. It is sad when a Native Son comes home to promote peace through music, and is treated in such a manner.

I was interviewed for Voice of America's Upfront Africa show by my good friend Jackson Mvunganyi, and got a chance to do an acoustic performance of "System Down", and promote the SystemDown.net website.
Accompanying me is my musical partner in crime Sahffi Lynne on djembe.

I hope you enjoy it, and please keep brother Emmauel in your thoughts and prayers.
Much Love.
Mosno Al-Moseeki.

The Making of : The Horn Sessions

Sticky Bear of Moonliscious came in with all his cool toys and layed down some awesome horn tracks for two of Novella tracks: Labyrinth & Angel/Mother.
"Labyrinth" has gone from being one of my difficult tunes to one of my favorits, I had to re-write this song 3 times until I finally settled on its current structure, & by adding the Clarinet & Saxophone made it even better.
It was a fun session check it out.

The Making of : The Cello Session

Kristen Jones came into the studio, I had the honor of having her play cello on 4 songs on the upcoming "Novella" Album: Land & Sea , Lost The Sun, People of the Blue Desert, & Shukran my Totem. Which are 3 "Journey" songs, & 1 "Contemplative" song. A lot of that going on in this album :)
Her skills totally elevated the songs to an fuller, epic level! check it out.
